Abigail Spanberger Sworn In as Virginia’s 75th Governor, First Woman Elected to the Post

Spanberger took the oath at noon Saturday on the South Portico of the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond.
Ghazala Hashmi and Jay Jones were also sworn in as lieutenant governor and attorney general, returning executive power to Democrats.
The inauguration carried the theme “United for Virginia’s Future,” followed by a Capitol Square parade featuring 25 groups including the Virginia National Guard and Virginia Pride.
The event was free to attend with limited bleacher seating distributed by lottery, and local outlets streamed the ceremony on FOX LOCAL, YouTube, TikTok, wtkr.com and connected TV apps.
Road closures around Capitol Square ran from 7 a.m. to about 4 p.m., and the weekend program included a Made in Virginia Market, an interfaith prayer breakfast, and Sunday public tours of the Executive Mansion.
