Overview

  • Gov. Greg Abbott formally asked the U.S. Small Business Administration on July 16 to issue a disaster declaration that would make low-interest loans available to those affected.
  • More than 800 residents remain displaced nearly four weeks after the six-alarm blaze on June 23, which was traced to an HVAC failure on the building’s roof.
  • A joint damage assessment by the SBA, Texas Division of Emergency Management and Tarrant County determined that 304 homes and one business suffered major damage with uninsured losses surpassing 40 percent.
  • Local organizations including Near Southside Inc. and the Tarrant County United Way have raised over $100,000 to provide temporary shelter and emergency financial assistance.
  • Tenants report continued lack of communication from property managers and no timeline for retrieving personal belongings as safety inspections continue.
