Abbott, Patrick Announce Push for TPUSA Club America in Every Texas High School

Abbott warned districts they could face disciplinary action through the education agency for obstructing student chapters.

Overview

  • Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and TPUSA senior director Josh Thifault unveiled the plan at the Governor’s Mansion and urged Texans to report any blocked clubs to the Texas Education Agency.
  • Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said the agency has received no reports so far of schools refusing to allow chapters.
  • Patrick previously pledged $1 million in campaign funds to help launch TPUSA chapters across the state.
  • Abbott said more than 500 Texas high schools already have Club America chapters, which he said is the most of any state.
  • Petitions and civil-rights groups have criticized the expansion, and Round Rock ISD rejected a viral claim that it blocked a TPUSA club.
