Aaron Tveit, Sutton Foster to Replace Josh Groban in 'Sweeney Todd' Broadway Revival in February 2024
Tony award-winners Tveit and Foster take on iconic roles in limited 12-week engagement, beginning February 9th, 2024, at Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
- Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster are set to take over the roles of Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett in the Broadway revival of 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street', replacing Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford.
- Tveit and Foster will begin their limited 12-week run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre starting February 9th, 2024, while the final performance of Groban and Ashford is scheduled on January 14th, 2024.
- The musical, directed by Thomas Kail of Hamilton, has consistently performed well, with the production regularly selling out and grossing above the $1 million mark.
- This will be an against-the-type casting for Tveit and Foster, who are known for their roles in popular Broadway shows such as 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' and 'The Music Man' respectively.
- In preparation for their roles, Foster will be seen in the upcoming adaptation of 'Once Upon a Mattress' as Princess Winnifred in January 2024, and Tveit has previously expressed his interest in playing Sweeney Todd.
