Aaron Sorkin to Write and Direct The Social Network Part II

Sony Pictures has enlisted Sorkin to develop a thematic follow-up that probes Facebook’s internal practices fueling online harm.

Overview

  • After writing the original under David Fincher, Sorkin will take on directing duties himself for the first time in The Social Network series.
  • The screenplay is based on The Wall Street Journal’s 2021 "Facebook Files," using leaked internal documents to examine the company’s awareness of platform harms.
  • Sources describe the movie as a thematic follow-up exploring Facebook’s influence on misinformation, youth mental health, political unrest and international conflicts.
  • Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser are producing alongside Sorkin, with development currently underway but no production date set.
