Overview
- CBDT set December 31, 2025 as the final date to link Aadhaar with PAN, with inoperative status starting January 1, 2026 for any PAN left unlinked.
- An inoperative PAN will not be accepted for income-tax return filing, KYC verification, or certain banking and investment transactions.
- After the deadline, taxpayers must first pay a late fee of Rs 1,000 under Section 234H before initiating the linking process.
- Linking and status checks can be completed on the Income Tax e‑Filing portal, with an SMS option using UIDPAN to 567678 or 56161, and any data mismatches should be corrected via UIDAI for Aadhaar or UTIITSL/authorised PAN centres.
- December 31 is also the last day to file a belated ITR for FY2024–25 and to submit annual GST returns, each carrying separate penalties if missed.
