Aadhaar Updates: Address Changes Are Fully Online, Photo Changes Still Require a Centre Visit
UIDAI directs residents to its self-service portal for OTP-verified address changes.
Overview
- Residents can update their Aadhaar address on the Self Service Update Portal by logging in with an OTP, submitting the new address with proof, and receiving a URN to track the request.
- UIDAI accepts common proof-of-address documents such as recent utility bills, bank statements or passbooks, passports, voter IDs, driving licences, ration cards, property tax receipts, and rent agreements.
- The reported online fee for an address change is Rs 75, with most requests processed in about 7 to 10 working days and the updated e-Aadhaar available for download once approved.
- Address updates and other changes can also be done at enrolment or update centres by submitting originals for verification, completing biometric authentication, and collecting an acknowledgement slip containing the URN.
- Aadhaar photographs cannot be updated fully online, so users should book an appointment and visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for a new photo, biometric verification, a reported ₹100 fee, and an expected 7 to 30 day processing window.
