  • From October 1, 2026 oil marketing companies will block domestic LPG connections that have not completed biometric Aadhaar authentication from booking refills at the regulated subsidised price.
  • The Petroleum Ministry reported that as of September 19 about 27.43 crore active domestic consumers, or roughly 89.9 percent, had completed biometric Aadhaar authentication while about 3.16 crore remained unverified as of the September 14 cut‑off.
  • Non‑compliant households can restore subsidy by completing biometric authentication or they can register with their OMC to receive LPG at the market price without subsidy, typically in 5‑kg or 10‑kg cylinders where available.
  • The government stopped explicit cash transfers for non‑BAA consumers on July 1 and says the new rule targets diversion and duplicate connections; the implicit subsidy on a 14.2‑kg cylinder was about ₹210 in September 2026 and accumulated under‑recoveries at public OMCs exceeded ₹62,000 crore as of August 31.
  • Consumers can complete authentication during cylinder delivery, at distributor showrooms or via OMC mobile apps and helplines, and distributors have run camps, delivery‑based checks and millions of SMS and WhatsApp prompts to help people finish the process.
