AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco Announces Retirement

Aresco, Known for Advocacy for Leagues Outside Power Five, to Retire in May 2024

Mike Aresco, the commissioner of the American Athletic Conference (AAC), has announced his retirement effective May 31, 2024.
Aresco has been a strong advocate for leagues outside the Power Five, and has been instrumental in navigating the AAC through significant changes in college athletics.
Before his tenure as AAC commissioner, Aresco was an executive vice president of programming at CBS Sports and spent 12 years with ESPN.
Under Aresco's leadership, the AAC established itself as the top Group of 5 conference, with Aresco pushing for more national respect for his teams.
The AAC is currently the only Group of 5 conference to have lost teams to the Power 5 during recent realignment rounds, which Aresco has touted as a sign of the league's quality of competition.
