Overview
- The Autobahn GmbH confirmed the A59 between Monheim and the Autobahndreieck Düsseldorf‑Süd will be fully closed in the direction of Düsseldorf from Friday, October 2, for roughly eight months to rebuild the carriageway and repair bridges.
- During the A59 works traffic will be rerouted primarily via the A542, A3 and A46 and 14 demand-controlled traffic lights will be deployed on local diversion routes to even out flows and limit congestion.
- A separate, long-running rehabilitation of about ten kilometres of the A9 near Ingolstadt has been under way since October 2024, remains on schedule to finish primary works in November or December 2026, and carries an estimated cost of about €165.6 million.
- Short, planned weekend closures and ramp works are under way or imminent: the Schiersteiner Kreuz connecting ramp is shut for several nights from August 26–29 to build a provisional ramp, the Dutch A12 will be fully closed toward Arnhem from August 28–31 for resurfacing (with a repeat weekend in early September), and the A43 between Kreuz Bochum and Kreuz Recklinghausen is due for a full closure the weekend of September 4–7 for bridge and surfacing works.
- Drivers should expect long detours, tighter lane widths and lower speed limits where carriageways are reduced (the A9 already has a 60 km/h limit in a narrowed section), and authorities advise planning trips, following diversion signs and leaving extra travel time because works overlap with other rail and road projects that can amplify delays.
