A40 at Kreuz Duisburg-Kaiserberg Shuts This Weekend for Bridge Demolition

The weekend shutdown enables demolition of a defunct bridge at Kreuz Kaiserberg as part of a years-long rebuild that keeps several links closed into 2027–2028.

Overview

  • Autobahn GmbH Rheinland will fully close the A40 between Kreuz Duisburg and the Duisburg-Kaiserberg junction from Friday, Oct. 17, 21:00 to Monday, Oct. 20, 05:00 in both directions.
  • During the works, the ramp from the A40 toward Essen to the A3 toward Arnhem is shut because it runs directly beside the structure being removed.
  • Connections from the A3 in both directions to the A40 toward Venlo are also closed while scaffolding on a new A3 bridge is dismantled.
  • Signposted detours are in place, and drivers should expect delays through this key North Rhine-Westphalia traffic node.
  • The operation is part of the ongoing reconstruction of Kreuz Kaiserberg, with some connections closed until mid‑2027 or end‑2028, and a separate 10‑day A3 closure announced for Nov. 7–17.
