A4 Tunnel Königshainer Berge Closure Extended to February

Unexpected challenges in the renovation have delayed the reopening of the tunnel, impacting winter services.

The renovation of the Königshainer Berge Tunnel on the A4, which began in April 2024, is now expected to continue until the end of February 2025.
The delay is due to unforeseen difficulties in the rock excavation needed for expanding emergency call niches within the tunnel.
Currently, traffic is being managed through a single-lane system in the remaining open tunnel bore, affecting daily commutes.
The Autobahn GmbH has assured that winter services will be maintained, with new equipment and smaller snowplows being deployed to manage the situation.
Plans for the renovation of the southern bore of the tunnel are under discussion, with potential adjustments to the original schedule.
