A3 at Kreuz Kaiserberg Reopens After 10-Day Closure, Easing Ruhr Traffic

The section was shut for bridge works in a complex, years-long rebuild of the interchange that carries heavy daily volumes.

Overview

  • Autobahn GmbH reopened the A3 between Kreuz Oberhausen-West and Kreuz Breitscheid early Monday after a planned full closure that began November 7.
  • Traffic flow improved on Monday morning compared with the diversion period, though queues persisted with about 8 kilometers of slow traffic on the A3 and 6 kilometers on the A59 toward Düsseldorf.
  • ADAC data show 167 hours of congestion from Monday to Thursday on diversion routes A42, A59 and A524 during the closure versus 74 hours the week before.
  • The A42 segment between Kreuz Duisburg-Nord and Kreuz Oberhausen-West saw nearly seven times more congestion than in the prior week, according to ADAC.
  • The renovation at Kreuz Kaiserberg began in 2022, is planned to run roughly eight years, and serves around 130,000 vehicles daily with projections of 145,000 by 2030.
