A24 Sells High-End Locket from Sofia Coppola's "Priscilla" as Part of Movie Merchandise
$400 silver and $1,280 gold version of heart-shaped locket imitates real necklace worn by character in Sofia Coppola's "Priscilla"; The A24 merch is first fine-jewelry offering, crafted by L.A. designer J. Hannah.
- The film studio A24 has released a heart-shaped locket as merch for Sofia Coppola's new film 'Priscilla', based on a real locket worn by the titular character, Priscilla Beaulieu. The original locket was also worn by the teenage Priscilla Presley, and was featured in her memoir 'Elvis and Me' - the basis for Coppola's movie.
- L.A. designer J. Hannah, who has a reputation for minimal pieces inspired by heirloom jewelry, designed the replica locket. It is available in $400 silver and $1,280 gold versions and is A24's first foray into fine jewelry.
- The locket is sold on the A24 website as part of the 'Priscilla' movie merchandise, which began rolling out in October with a winged eyeliner kit. A24 is known for selling well-designed, Zeitgeist-y merch for their titles, having previously collaborated with designers such as Online Ceramics for horror movies 'Hereditary' and 'Pearl'.
- J. Hannah tried to retain the original 'romance' of the locket in her design while simplifying it. The heart is slightly smaller and more subtle, the silk ribbon has end caps instead of clasps for different tying options, and the back is engraved with 'Priscilla' and 'JH'.
- Despite the merch being a significant aspect of the movie's costumes, neither Sofia Coppola nor costume designer Stacey Battat were involved in the development of the J. Hannah locket for A24. The lockets used in the film were created by jewelry designer Gillian Steinhardt, and used extensively during Ms. Presley's early high school years in the film.
