A12 Night Resurfacing Starts and Full Weekend Closure Set for Darsham

Resurfacing with utility work aims to improve road safety, forcing detours that could add more than two hours to journeys through Suffolk and Essex.

Overview

  • National Highways began a three-night overnight closure of the A12 southbound between Marks Tey and Hatfield Peverel on Wednesday night to carry out essential resurfacing work between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.
  • A separate full closure of the A12 between The Street in Darsham and Westleton Road in Yoxford is scheduled from 8pm on Friday, November 6 until 5am on Monday, November 9 to allow a utility crossing and the installation of a new pedestrian crossing.
  • The official diversion for the Darsham weekend closure routes traffic on a nearly 100-mile circuit via the A12, A14, A140, A143 and A146 and is expected to add more than two hours to journeys.
  • For the Marks Tey–Hatfield Peverel night works drivers are told to leave the A12 southbound at Junction 25, use the A120 towards Braintree and the A131 towards Chelmsford to rejoin the A12, and to allow extra time for travel.
  • Authorities say emergency and property access will be maintained, diversion signage will be in place, closures may change at short notice because of weather or urgent works, and local bodies including SZC and Suffolk County Council have coordinated the timings and apologised for disruption.
