A11 Police Shooting Victim Identified as Tony Keeble

An independent investigation is reviewing evidence from the encounter to assess officers' actions.

Overview

  • Tony Keeble, 61, from Thetford, was formally identified following a post-mortem that cited gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen as the provisional cause of death.
  • Police were called to a two-vehicle crash on London Road at about 8:25pm, after which a man believed to be a driver left the scene holding what witnesses described as a handgun.
  • Armed officers located the man near the Brandon Road roundabout shortly before 9pm, issued commands to drop the weapon, and he was pronounced dead at the scene despite first aid and an ambulance response.
  • The IOPC says a firearm that appeared not to be police-issued was recovered, and investigators are securing body-worn video, dashcam footage, police logs, 999 calls, and other material.
  • Reports differ on how many shots were fired during the engagement, which the IOPC will clarify as it updates the family, who have requested privacy, while Norfolk Police cooperates fully.
