A10 Brentenberg Tunnel Truck Fire Triggers Major Damage, Extended Closure

Engineers are evaluating destroyed safety systems to determine reopening plans.

Overview

  • A semitrailer crashed at the Brentenberg tunnel entrance near Salzburg around 18:00 Friday, caught fire and burned out, and the driver was rescued through a cross passage and taken to Salzburg University Hospital with no severity update.
  • The blaze destroyed lighting, radio and fire‑detection systems and damaged the roadway and concrete over roughly the first 100 meters, according to Asfinag, which has not set a timeframe for reopening.
  • The motorway was shut for hours and diversions caused heavy congestion on the B159 and A10, with drivers facing delays of up to about 90 minutes, ÖAMTC reported.
  • On the A17 near Dresden, a crash involving three lorries and two cars near the Altfranken tunnel lightly injured three people as THW assisted, and an earlier Coschütz tunnel incident spilled about 300 liters of diesel and led to a temporary full closure.
  • Elsewhere, a truck lane change on the A5 near Karlsruhe flipped a Renault and injured its driver, and a burning electronics‑scrap trailer on the S16 near Dalaas was detached and extinguished without injuries after the L97 was closed for about an hour.
