Overview
- The A1 northbound between Hamburg-Harburg and Stillhorn is closed from Friday 19 June at 22:00 until Monday 22 June at 05:00 for work on the Süderelbbrücke.
- The ADAC has warned of a high risk of major congestion on Friday and over the weekend because many commuters and holiday drivers will use the same routes.
- Authorities designate the B75 as the official southern detour, but drivers from southern Hamburg are likely to overload that road and cause slowdowns.
- A commonly recommended northern alternative runs via the B73, the Elbtunnel and the B432 through Norderstedt and Bad Segeberg, with Google Maps estimating about two to three hours to Timmendorfer Strand by that route.
- If the Elbtunnel becomes congested or closed, drivers can follow the Elbe to Geesthacht and take the B404 to the Bargteheide motorway access, and similar A1 closures are planned for following weekends and early July which will add to holiday traffic pressure.
