A-Basin, Loveland and Keystone Start Snowmaking, Joining Copper’s Early Push

Announcements will come only when key runs have enough man-made base.

Overview

  • Arapahoe Basin turned on its snow guns at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 and they were still running the following morning, according to the resort.
  • Loveland and Keystone began full-scale snowmaking on Oct. 13, joining Copper Mountain, which has been producing snow since Oct. 2 for U.S. Ski Team training and a late-November World Cup.
  • Early efforts are concentrated on specific corridors: A-Basin near Black Mountain Express, Loveland’s primary early-season route, and Keystone’s Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon.
  • A-Basin has opened in October in 20 of the past 22 seasons, reflecting its long-standing early-season pattern.
  • None of the resorts has set an opening date; Keystone and Loveland say they hope to open in late October or early November, depending on conditions.
