- Newcastle City Council said on 5 January that the restoration is on track to finish early this year.
- Fresh images show new pavilions, an upstairs seating area and a staircase taking shape at the Nelson Street end.
- Glazed sliding doors, new toilets installed by contractor Robertson and hand‑painted signage by local artist Ashley Willerton are being added.
- The arcade is being reconfigured to accommodate gigs, plays and other cultural events.
- The project, financed by the 2021 Levelling Up Fund, has disrupted some traders who report turnover losses from hoardings and kiosk demolitions.
