9/11 Survivor Drowns While Heroically Rescuing Children From Lake Michigan

Luke Laidley, a father of three who survived the September 11 terrorist attacks, died while saving children from drowning in Lake Michigan on July 4.
Laidley jumped into the lake after witnessing a raft capsize and children struggling in the water.
Though Laidley emerged after about a minute underwater with the rescued children, he later died at the hospital.
Laidley worked in the south tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11 and safely evacuated.
Laidley was remembered by loved ones as a hero who lived by the motto of "counting blessings and giving of oneself."
