91-year-old woman dies after car crashes into tree on A174

Cleveland Police is appealing for witnesses with dashcam or CCTV footage as part of its ongoing investigation into the crash

  • The collision occurred on June 4 at about 12:20 pm when a Ford C-Max veered off the eastbound A174 near Coulby Newham and struck a tree
  • The driver, a 91-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene and her 88-year-old husband was taken to James Cook University Hospital with chest injuries
  • Police initially closed both directions of the A174 between Stainton and Marton before reopening the eastbound carriageway shortly after 5 pm
  • Emergency crews from Cleveland Fire Brigade and North East Ambulance Service joined police at the scene to assist the victims and secure the area
