9-Year-Old Killed in Calgary Crash After Robbery Suspect Runs Red Light

A high-speed collision involving a stolen vehicle left one child dead and several others critically injured during a police pursuit in Calgary.

Calgary police were called to a pharmacy robbery on Thursday morning where the suspect assaulted a pharmacist and fled in a stolen vehicle.
Police used a HAWCS helicopter to monitor the suspect due to unsafe driving, opting not to pursue the vehicle on the ground for public safety reasons.
Approximately 20 minutes later, the suspect ran a red light at Southland Drive and Macleod Trail, causing a multi-vehicle collision involving five vehicles.
A nine-year-old girl died from her injuries, and three others, including two teenagers, remain hospitalized in critical condition.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the police's initial contact with the suspect, who has been arrested with charges pending.
