Overview
- On August 10 the government told Parliament that the 8th Central Pay Commission has not submitted its recommendations and no implementation date has been set.
- The Commission concluded regional meetings in Delhi on August 10 and is continuing consultations with unions, pensioner groups and departments in other cities through September.
- Employee and pensioner groups have delivered sharply different demands such as NC‑JCM’s 3.83 fitment factor proposal, IRTSA’s 2.92 fitment and Rs 52,600 minimum pay request, and BPS’s call for quarterly DA/DR, a Rs 45,000 minimum pension and DR merger at 25%.
- The panel was given an 18‑month term from November 3, 2025 and is expected to submit its report around May 2027, after which the government will examine recommendations and decide what to accept, modify or reject.
- Any final decision will affect roughly 35.77 lakh central civilian employees and about 33.76 lakh pensioners, and officials will weigh large budgetary costs that could change take‑home pay, pension levels and allowance rules.
