Overview
- On May 15 the girl fell while playing in Nawajpur village, Uttar Pradesh, driving an 8cm construction nail through her neck, jaw and into her brain.
- A CT scan revealed the nail had penetrated the cranial cavity dangerously close to major arteries and entered via the lower jaw.
- Dr. Vaibhav Jaiswal and Dr. Sameer Mishra led the May 16 operation at King George’s Medical University Trauma Center in Lucknow, using advanced surgical techniques to remove the nail.
- Postoperatively she received ventilator support and remained under close observation for ten days to guard against swelling, infection and neurological complications.
- The child was transferred to a general ward on May 29 fully conscious with no immediate neurological deficits and is expected to make a full recovery.
