85-Year-Old Woman Rescued After Brisbane House Collapse

Heavy rains caused a heritage-listed home to slide off its stumps, leaving the elderly resident trapped but largely unharmed.

An 85-year-old woman, Josephine Curties, was rescued from her Ashgrove home after it partially collapsed due to saturated ground from prolonged heavy rains.
Tradesmen working nearby rushed to the scene and safely carried the woman out, navigating through debris blocking the exits.
Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, secured the site and ensured the woman sustained only minor injuries, such as cuts and abrasions.
Brisbane City Council has dispatched a structural engineer to investigate the collapse of the heritage-listed property, which had been the woman's home for 50 years.
The woman, who was already planning to move to a smaller residence, will temporarily stay with family while the site is assessed.
