Overview

• The two-alarm blaze was reported around 12:20 p.m. Sunday at a home on Simsbury Drive in Twinsburg.
• Police tried to reach the finished basement but retreated due to heavy smoke before firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack.
• Crews used a VEIS search to locate the baby behind a closed bedroom door, then carried him out and began treating smoke inhalation.
• The child was taken to University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood and was reported in good condition.
• Several officers and the homeowner were evaluated at the scene, two dogs and six cats were found safe, damage topped $90,000, the Red Cross is assisting, and the cause remains under investigation.
