8 Injured as Metrolink Train Hits Stationary Train at L.A. Union Station

Metrolink has opened an internal safety investigation into the cause of the platform collision.

Overview

  • Ventura County Line Train 104 collided with an empty Metrolink train at a Union Station platform around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
  • The arriving train carried 85 passengers, with one person hospitalized and six passengers plus the conductor reporting minor injuries.
  • Metrolink’s safety, security and compliance department is leading the probe, and no cause has been released.
  • The trainsets were slated for San Bernardino Line trains 310 and 327, which were canceled following the crash.
  • A Metrolink spokesperson said broader service impacts were limited due to 30-minute San Bernardino Line headways, as recent regional crashes keep safety under scrutiny.
