Philadelphia 76ers' president Daryl Morey has co-produced a basketball-themed musical, 'Small Ball', which recently ran at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre in Philadelphia.
'Small Ball' is an absurdist comedy about a team of 6-inch Lilliputians from 'Gulliver’s Travels' who form a basketball team led by a player named Michael Jordan, not the NBA legend.
The musical was written by Mickle Maher, with music composed by Merel Van Dijk and Anthony Barilla, and has previously been staged in Houston and Denver.
Morey, who has also been credited as a producer on Broadway shows, grew up considering a career in musical theater and has expressed his hopes for 'Small Ball' to have a longer run and possibly reach New York.
The musical is unique in its format, with acts designed to mimic NBA press conferences and a plot that unfolds through postgame press conferences.
