760,000 Pensioners Urged to Claim Pension Credit with New £331 Disability Top-Up

DWP highlights that Attendance Allowance recipients can qualify for a Severe Disability Addition worth £82.90 a week

  • The DWP estimates nearly 1.4 million older adults already claim Pension Credit while around 760,000 eligible pensioners remain unclaimed
  • Pension Credit can boost annual income by an average of £4,300 and offers help with housing costs, heating bills and Council Tax
  • Couples with weekly earnings under £346.60 or singles earning less than £227.10 qualify for the means-tested benefit regardless of savings up to £10,000 or home ownership
  • Under the Severe Disability Addition those on Attendance Allowance, PIP, DLA or comparable disability payments can secure an extra £82.90 each week, totalling £331.60 every four weeks
  • Pensioners can apply up to four months before State Pension age and backdate claims by three months via the online calculator or the Pension Credit helpline on 0800 99 1234
