71-Year-Old Arrested in Upper East Side Hit-and-Run That Killed Pedestrian

  • Police identified the suspect as Abdul Hakim of Jackson Heights, who is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash that killed 36-year-old James Mossetty.
  • Mossetty was struck around 5 a.m. Saturday on York Avenue near East 72nd Street while crossing mid-block, according to a preliminary investigation.
  • The victim became trapped under a 2021 Toyota RAV4 and was dragged roughly a dozen blocks to the lower level of the Ed Koch–Queensboro Bridge.
  • EMS took Mossetty to NewYork–Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
  • Hakim was arrested later that day within the 115th Precinct and was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court, where a judge set bond at $300,000, as the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad continues its work.
