700 Goa Recruits Graduate From Lachit Barphukan Police Academy as Bhutan Seeks Training Slot

Assam’s newly upgraded facility has wrapped up its first development phase, receiving a formal training request from Bhutan.

  • A total of 700 Goa Police recruits—569 men and 131 women—completed a 43-week induction at LBPA and have been posted to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd India Reserve Battalions.
  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant presided over the passing-out parade, highlighting the academy’s role in deepening inter-state police cooperation.
  • Phase one of the Rs 1,050 crore LBPA project, inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, includes smart classrooms, weapon simulators, research labs and residential blocks for more than 2,600 trainees.
  • Assam DGP Harmeet Singh noted that LBPA has already trained about 2,000 Manipur Police cadets and confirmed Bhutan’s formal approach for future training.
