The boy was on his way to school around 7:45 a.m., the collision occurred near Fort Greene Park, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The NYPD tow truck driver, a 54-year-old woman, stayed at the scene and is currently being investigated. Some witnesses have claimed that she was speeding and ran a red light.
The fatal incident adds to a growing concern of traffic violence in New York City. According to a safe-streets group, the boy was the 73rd pedestrian killed in a traffic collision in 2023.
