• Retired accountant Kent Broussard became the Golden Band from Tigerland’s oldest member after performing during LSU’s Sept. 6 home opener against Louisiana Tech.
• He previously played sousaphone in high school and at Southeastern Louisiana University before graduating in 1980.
• To prepare, he ran with a weighted vest and practiced marching while carrying a 30-pound sousaphone as he relearned the instrument.
• Broussard won one of 325 positions in the ensemble and now attends classes as an LSU freshman.
• He appeared on the Tiger Stadium Jumbotron during the game to loud cheers, drawing nationwide attention to his late-life return to marching band.
