6.4-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Northern B.C. Coast

The quake was felt across a broad area, but no tsunami threat or major damage has been reported.

  • The earthquake occurred at 3:22 p.m. local time, approximately 200 kilometers south of Sandspit, B.C.
  • Seismic activity began earlier in the day with a 3.0 quake at 2:37 p.m., followed by a 4.2 tremor.
  • Earthquakes Canada reported that tremors were felt as far as Sandspit, Masset, and parts of northern Vancouver Island.
  • The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center confirmed there is no threat of a tsunami from the earthquake.
  • Residents reported feeling the ground shake, but no significant damage or injuries have been reported.
