Overview
- The 6.1-magnitude tremor struck at 7:53 pm local time on August 10 at a depth of 10–11 km in the Sindirgi district of Balıkesir province.
- An 81-year-old woman was killed and 29 people were injured when multiple buildings collapsed in the epicentral area, with tremors felt as far away as Istanbul and Izmir.
- At least ten buildings collapsed in Sindirgi, including a three-storey block from which four residents were rescued while crews work to free two others.
- AFAD activated the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP), dispatching teams, vehicles and equipment from several provincial directorates to support search and rescue in Balıkesir and nearby provinces.
- Aftershocks, including one measuring magnitude 4.6, have rattled the region and hampered rescue efforts as teams conduct ongoing surveys to assess further risks.
