60th Durangoko Azoka Expands Scope as Second Day Draws Crowds

The anniversary edition broadens its reach to younger audiences through new formats alongside night concerts.

Overview

  • Organisers report 1,026 new releases this year—694 books, 163 music productions, 30 magazines and 139 other works—across 285 stands with 273 scheduled events.
  • Ahotsenea is running 8–10 daytime concerts daily from December 5–8 (11:00–22:00), featuring 38 artists, including 12 presenting debut albums.
  • For the first time, ticketed late-night shows at Plateruena extend the program after hours: Lukiek and Ezezez performed on December 5, with Mirua and Naxker slated for December 6; tickets cost 5 or 10 euros.
  • Illustrators have a new, dedicated presence through Atartea and a Landako stand, which participants say boosts much-needed visibility and highlights professional concerns such as precarity and AI use.
  • Beyond books and music, the fair’s cross-disciplinary slate includes theatre and dance at Szenatokia, while EHU is presenting 40 new works linked to Basque language and culture, 30 of them in Basque.
