600 Kg of Banned Fireworks Seized in Kolkata, One Arrested

Overview

• Police identified the detainee as Md Zeeshan, 23, a Tiljala resident detained near Dharmatala’s Mayo Road.
• The haul included three nylon sacks and 25 cartons holding shells, kali pataka and chocolate bombs weighing about 600 kg.
• A case was registered at Maidan police station under Section 9(B) of the Explosives Act and Sections 61(2)/223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
• Prior operations recovered about 1,315 kg from Patuli, Dhalai Bridge and Garia crossings, plus 36 kg from Bansdroni, police said.
• Kolkata Police have permitted only green crackers from 8 to 10 p.m. on October 20 and introduced drone surveillance following a Calcutta High Court observation.
