Overview
- The collision happened shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 99W south of Gyle Road near Corning, according to the CHP Red Bluff office.
- Officials said a southbound Toyota Tacoma crossed the centerline and struck a northbound TRAX transit bus head-on, and the bus became fully engulfed in flames.
- The pickup driver, the bus driver, and four bus passengers died at the scene, and another passenger was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in critical condition.
- CHP reported reopening the affected stretch of Highway 99W later Wednesday after an extended closure for on-scene investigation.
- Tehama County Public Works suspended TRAX service for Wednesday and Thursday with an anticipated Friday restart, and authorities said it is too early to know if drugs or alcohol were factors as they ask witnesses to contact CHP.
