Overview

  • The Servicio Sismológico Nacional logged the quake at 11:58 AM on August 2 with its epicenter 13 km northeast of Tlacolula at a depth of about 10 km.
  • Residents reported shaking across Oaxaca, Mexico City, Chiapas, Morelos, Puebla and Veracruz, though Mexico City’s seismic alert did not sound because initial energy estimates fell below activation thresholds.
  • CDMX authorities and Oaxaca’s civil protection office immediately activated emergency protocols and conducted building and infrastructure inspections.
  • No structural damage or casualties were found in Mexico City and only one person suffered a head injury from falling debris in Oaxaca’s Andador Turístico area.
  • Teams from SSN, SGIRPC and civil protection agencies remain on alert for potential aftershocks and are maintaining readiness across affected regions.
