Overview
- Over 51,000 saplings were planted at Revati Range in Indore on July 12–13 under the local ‘Ek Bagiya Maa Ke Naam’ programme as part of the national ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ campaign.
- Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and state Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya led the drive alongside social organizations, students and citizens to promote biodiversity and expand green cover.
- Yadav urged every citizen to plant at least one tree in their mother’s name as a tribute and a measure against global warming, pesticide-driven soil degradation and ecological imbalance.
- The latest planting builds on last year’s Guinness World Records feat of 12.41 lakh saplings in 24 hours at the same site, underscoring India’s commitment to its net-zero by 2070 goal.
- To sustain the new forest, ministers announced plans for a meditation centre and dedicated nurseries aimed at nurturing the saplings over the long term.
