500,000 First-Year Students Sit Early French Baccalaureate Exam

The Ministry of Education released the topics after 9:00 AM under strict rules barring phones, calculators, early departures

  • General-stream candidates could choose between a commentary on Jules Barbey d’Aurevilly’s L’Ensorcelée or a dissertation on works by Corneille, Musset or Sarraute.
  • Technological-stream students tackled a commentary on Richard Rognet’s poem or a text contraction and essay on Rabelais, La Bruyère or Olympe de Gouges.
  • The four-hour test began at 8:00 AM for first-year candidates nationwide.
  • Written results count toward the terminal assessments that represent 60% of the final baccalaureate grade, with continuous assessment making up the rest.
  • An oral exam scheduled between June 23 and July 4 will complete the anticipatory assessment with equivalent weight.
