5-Year-Old Killed as Motorhome Overturns in Marion County Intersection Crash

Troopers say no one in the motorhome wore a seatbelt during the pre-dawn collision.

Overview

  • Florida Highway Patrol reports the collision occurred around 5:45 a.m. at U.S. 27 and County Road 316 in northwestern Marion County.
  • A southbound motorhome and a westbound SUV collided at the intersection, causing the motorhome to overturn.
  • The motorhome carried 15 people from Springfield, Ohio; a 5-year-old boy died at the scene and the 59-year-old driver sustained minor injuries.
  • Thirteen other motorhome occupants were transported with critical injuries, and the 25-year-old Old Town woman driving the SUV was also hospitalized in critical condition.
  • The roadway was closed for the on-scene investigation and has reopened as FHP continues to investigate the crash.
