Overview
- On Friday the 49ers held tryouts for cornerbacks Bryce Hall, Corey Mayfield Jr. and Troy Pride Jr., according to the NFL transaction wire.
- Head coach Kyle Shanahan said cornerback Nate Hobbs suffered a groin injury and is expected to miss a few weeks, and cornerback Jack Jones and safety Marques Sigle left practice and a preseason game with a hand injury and oblique injury respectively.
- Bryce Hall is a 2020 fifth-round pick with 40 NFL games and recent UFL play, Troy Pride Jr. is a 2020 fourth-round pick with multiple team stints, and Corey Mayfield Jr. produced four interceptions in the 2026 UFL season.
- The transaction log also showed routine preseason number changes for several players, including Deebo Samuel moving from No. 1 to No. 19.
- The tryouts underline the 49ers' short-term plan to plug depth from experienced free agents and alternate-league standouts while they monitor injuries and decide whether to add one of the auditioned players to the roster.
