Purdy is among the consensus betting favorites for MVP, ranking among the league leaders in every major passing category in his first full season as a starter for the 49ers.
McCaffrey, in his first full season with the Niners, is the NFL's leading rusher with 1,177 yards and is second in the league with 17 touchdowns this season.
Shanahan has refrained from backing one of his players over the other for the MVP award, stating he doesn't want them to cancel each other out.
The last time the MVP went to a player other than a quarterback was in 2012, when Vikings running back Adrian Peterson won the award.
