49ers Open Malik Mustapha’s Practice Window With Full Practice Return

The move starts a 21-day activation clock for the second-year safety.

Overview

  • Mustapha, coming off January surgery to reattach an ACL graft in his right knee, was a full participant Wednesday and said he expects to play against the Buccaneers.
  • Under NFL rules, the 49ers must activate Mustapha from the PUP list by Oct. 27 or he becomes ineligible to play this season.
  • Quarterback Brock Purdy remained out of practice with a toe injury, and Kyle Shanahan said an injured reserve move has not been considered.
  • Receivers Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings did not practice, Mac Jones was limited with knee and oblique issues, and DT Kevin Givens returned on a limited basis after his practice window opened.
  • San Francisco signed DL Bruce Hector to the practice squad and released S Jaylen Mahoney as the 4-1 49ers prepare for Week 6 at Tampa Bay.
