€47 Billion Data Center Boom in Aragón Quantified as Power-Grid Access Emerges as Decisive Hurdle

A Fundación Basilio Paraíso report projects major gains but says the rollout depends on national action to expand transmission capacity.

Overview

  • The study estimates associated investment at €47 billion and a recurring annual contribution of €4–5 billion to Aragón’s economy once facilities are operating.
  • It projects about 9,000 sustained jobs, including up to 4,500 highly qualified direct roles with an average gross salary of €42,000.
  • During the 2026–2029 construction phase, employment demand would average more than 21,000 workers and could total as many as 187,000 contracts across construction and allied sectors.
  • Estimated public revenues range from €860 million to €1.2 billion over ten years, with annual flows cited up to €372 million and municipal receipts of €277–€392 million.
  • Power demand is put at 3,400 MW—about half of Aragón’s projected 2030 consumption—making grid access the key bottleneck, while expected water use equal to 7.6%–22.9% of Zaragoza’s 2024 consumption drives a push for reclaimed supplies.
