Story had left home in 1979 with two male friends to search for her biological father in California, but was left in Las Vegas by her companions.
Her body was found in an open field near the Las Vegas Strip, but she remained unidentified and was referred to as 'Sahara Sue Doe'.
Advancements in DNA testing led to her identification in 2022, with the help of a private DNA testing laboratory, Othram, which specializes in forensic genealogy analysis.
The police department is now focusing on the two male friends who accompanied Story to Las Vegas as part of their ongoing investigation.
