42-year-old man killed in collision on A19 northbound near Castle Eden

Durham police are enforcing diversions on the closed northbound carriageway with emergency teams investigating the crash site

  • The crash occurred at about 6:45 am on June 5 when a Land Rover collided with a lorry on the A19 northbound between Castle Eden and Peterlee.
  • Emergency responders from North East Ambulance Service and Great North Air Ambulance Service attended but the 42-year-old Land Rover driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Durham Constabulary initially closed both carriageways, reopening the southbound side earlier today while the northbound remains shut.
  • Designated diversion routes have been signposted using local A- and B-road links to guide drivers around the closure.
  • The driver’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist police officers.
