The earthquake occurred at 8:17 p.m. PT, approximately 6 miles northwest of Malibu, California, according to the USGS.
The quake registered a magnitude of 3.9 and originated at a depth of about 8.9 miles.
Residents reported feeling weak tremors as far away as Santa Barbara, Riverside, and Mission Viejo.
No damage or injuries were reported, as earthquakes below magnitude 4.0 typically do not cause significant harm.
